"The Ultimate Guide to Making Luxurious Body Butter at Home"

Updated: Mar 1, 2024

As a child my Mother and Grandmother applied Vaseline on my skin that was all I used. As I grew older I experimented with new products from Cocoa Butter, Nivea, also popular high-street store brands. I never differentiated whether a cream was for my body or face. I purchased products based on attractive packaging, affordable, and well known not because of the ingredients placed in the products.

As an adult just before I started my sophieamornatural business I became conscious of what I ate and strived for a more healthy lifestyle. I consumed more organic foods and avoided processed sugary foods. I had never really considered that our bodies absorb what we put on our skin much like they absorb what we put in our mouths. All of my product ingredients from sophieamornatural are sourced from Africa without harsh chemicals such as Sulphates, Parabens, formaldehyde, Phthalates, and Oxybenzones.

Here’s How To Prepare For Making Body Butter

1. Organic ½ cup of Shea Butter, 1/4 Jojoba Oil

2. Sweet Almond Oil Essential Oils (optional)

3. Vitamin E

4.Essential Oil

5.Electric food mixer

6. Double boiler

Shea Body Butter

Shea Body Butter can be made in various ways this is my version. You can opt out of some ingredients. I highlighted the optional ingredients and cooking appliances.

Tip :

You can blend your body butter either with a hand mixer or a stand mixer. I prefer a stand mixer if you want to avoid an arm ache.

Here’s How To Do It :

  1. Once your oils are melted together, add Jojoba or sweet almond oil.

  2. Put your Shea Butter in a bowl and melt together gently.Use a double boiler for the best results, or put it over a saucepan of boiling water.

  3. Allow to cool a little, then put your bowl in your fridge or freezer.

  4. Your mixture should look ready, add vitamin E, and essential oil minimum 5 drops for fragrance.

  5. Now it is ready for whipping use a stand mixer (or a hand whisker) whip it up until it looks and feels smooth. Once it is whipped, put it into a tub style container or glass jars.

Benefits Of Shea Body Butter

Ultra-Moisturising: The whipped butter feels luxurious and soaks into the skin, delivering incredible moisture.

Non-Toxic and Natural: Made with simple, natural ingredients. No synthetic fragrances, preservatives, or other unwanted ingredients. Just nourishing ingredients that are good for your skin.

Easy to Make: Melt the ingredients, chill in the fridge, then use a fork or hand-mixer to whip.

What’s The Shelf Life Of Homemade Body Butter? When it comes to homemade body butter made with natural ingredients, ensuring its longevity and effectiveness requires proper storage and care. The ingredients in our homemade natural body butter recipe are all-natural, which means they are sensitive to temperature and can melt if exposed to heat. To maintain its quality, it's essential to store the body butter in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight.
